Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio visits President Buhari, declares intention to run for Senate President

Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja on Sunday night. During the meeting, Akpabio informed the President of his intention to run for the position of Senate President in the upcoming 10th National Assembly inauguration in June.

Akpabio, who served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom state for two terms, stated that if he is elected as Senate President, he would work closely with the incoming presidency of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to empower Nigerians, particularly the youth.

He also expressed his gratitude to the President for appointing him as a minister in his administration and presented his Certificate of Returns during the visit.

Akpabio promised to introduce reforms into the Senate's operations and work to assist the incoming administration to succeed. He stated that he plans to tackle issues through legislation to empower Nigerians, especially the youth, and prevent them from being lured into criminal activities.

When asked about his consultations with other Senators and APC leadership, Akpabio replied that they had been positive and well-received. He compared his situation to that of a pregnant woman who is already eight months along, just one month away from delivery.
